Paris Sahlen Golf Tournament

The annual Paris Sahlen Golf Tournament honours the legacy of HMCS Calgary's late Honourary Coxswain, Paris Sahlen. Teams of four compete in a full round of golf.

About Paris Sahlen

Paris Kemp Sahlen (1944–2018) was a dedicated naval advocate and community leader from Calgary. Born in Barons, Alberta, he served as President of the Calgary Navy Veterans Association and as Calgary's liaison to HMCS Calgary since the ship's commissioning in 1995.

His contributions were recognized with the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award and Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. In April 2018, he was appointed Honorary Coxswain of HMCS Calgary FFH 335 — a role he held with immense pride until his passing in December 2018.

Sahlen was instrumental in forging the bond between Alberta, the City of Calgary, and HMCS Calgary. He played a key role in the creation of the Naval Museum of Alberta (opened 1988) and later the Military Museums of Calgary, the largest tri-service museum in Western Canada. He was also a strong supporter of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and Navy League Cadets.

In June 2022, the Government of Canada and Parks Canada honoured Paris K. Sahlen as a Hometown Hero, recognizing his lifelong dedication to naval heritage and community service.

Registration

Cost: $170 per participant — includes cart rentals and green fees. Equipment not included. Clubs available on a first-come first-serve basis.
