The Calgary Military Family Resource Centre is offering Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), a two-day, in-person workshop in suicide first aid. Developed and facilitated by the Centre for Suicide Prevention, ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide and to work with them on a plan that supports their immediate safety.
Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day
The Military Museums, 4520 Crowchild Trail SW, Calgary
Participants learn to:
- Recognize attitudes and beliefs about suicide
- Provide flexible, life-assisting guidance to someone thinking about suicide
- Develop a plan to support immediate safety
- Provide suicide first aid
- Strengthen community resources and connections
- Understand the broader role of suicide prevention, including life promotion and self-care
No formal training is required. The workshop is open to adults 18 and older in the military and Veteran community, and is offered at no cost to that community (regular cost $300 per person).
